It's Joe Inzerillo's rule from Dreamforce 2026: once one step in a process runs at agentic scale, every step after it has to as well. If a human-scale step follows an automated one, that's where the ROI stalls. In Salesforce sales and service processes, the step that most often breaks the chain is the first phone call, because it usually sits as a task in a rep's queue.

Because scoring, enrichment, and routing are automated now, and the call usually isn't. The agent's last action creates a task, and the lead waits for a free rep. That wait is expensive. Harvard Business Review research found firms reaching leads within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify them as firms that waited even one hour longer. Agents moved everything upstream to seconds. The call stayed on a calendar.

Honestly, it shouldn't, and we'd be wary of any vendor promising that. An AI calling agent should own the first touch: fast outreach, qualifying questions, rescheduling, logging. Your reps should own what needs judgment, like discovery, negotiation, and anything sensitive. The goal isn't fewer humans. It's moving humans out of the critical path so they arrive later, better prepared, with the transcript already open.

It depends on where your org starts. Agentforce Voice runs on Salesforce Voice with Amazon Connect or a supported CCaaS partner, and Salesforce's own admin guidance says it can't sit on legacy telephony. For service orgs already on Salesforce Voice, it's a strong choice. 360 CTI suits teams already calling inside Salesforce through an AppExchange app who want outbound and inbound first-touch calls to run agentically without re-platforming.

Measure the gap between qualification and first call. With field history tracking on Lead Status, report the time from the change to Qualified to the first completed call Task on that lead. Then compare it with capacity. If qualified leads per month exceed the first-touch calls your team can make inside an hour, the difference is ROI your upstream agents created and your process never collected.
